Melbourne, nicknamed “The Harbor City” today features two "old" downtown business district areas known as Historic Downtown Melbourne and the Olde Eau Gallie Arts District. Historic Downtown Melbourne is home to many festivals including the annual Melbourne Arts Festival, which draws 50,000-60,000 visitors every August. This four block district embraces the culture of the arts featuring the Henegar Center for the Arts theatre, numerous quaint specialty shops and retail outlets accompanied by fine dining and drinking establishments. Take a stroll through the Eau Gallie Arts District to the Foosaner Art Museum or the Historic Rossetter House Museum. Just north of the Eau Gallie area, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and well known, famous entertainers as well as a variety of top Broadway shows are performed at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts.

Spend your leisure time boating, fishing, camping, kayaking or canoeing in one of the many freshwater lakes or the Indian River. Lake Washington Park consists of 25.96 acres and runs along the shore of Lake Washington which accesses the St. Johns River. The park has family picnic areas, a large pavilion, ramps for power boats and a launch area for airboats. Head west on US HWY 192 to Camp Holly where alligators can be seen year round for an exciting Airboat Tour or Eco/Night Tour on the St Johns River. Camp Holly offers guided duck hunts, turkey hunts and bass fishing for the avid hunter or fisherman.

This once small, waterfront town has grown into a thriving city. Melbourne is home to many successful small businesses and numerous aerospace, defense and technology companies having a high concentration of high-tech workers. These companies include Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, General Electric, Rockwell Collins, Embraer and DRS Technologies. The main campuses of Eastern Florida State College and Florida Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) offer educational opportunities for all avenues of higher education and athletics.

The Orlando Melbourne International Airport is centrally located in the city of Melbourne and currently served by four commercial airlines. Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Elite Airways and Toronto-based Porter Airlines. They are joined by Baer Air which offers private aircraft charters. F.I.T. Aviation Flight School owned by Florida Institute of Technology for the College of Aeronautics offers flight training for fixed wing aircraft for the FAA Private Pilot Certification, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Certification, Multi-Engine and Advanced Aircraft Training.

Melbourne has a great balance of culture and diversity and a strong sense of community. The lifestyle choices are endless, from riverfront, lakefront and canal front homes to condominium and townhomes. Own a home with acreage, live in one of the many gated communities or choose a modest single family in a quiet neighborhood. It’s up to you! Leave those snow boots and shovels up north and invest in a seasonal residence minutes from the beaches.
